Support Groups
A support group is crucial for cancer patients and their family members as they embark on the cancer journey. Groups meet regularly at the Classroom at the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation in a safe, welcoming environment with a goal of sharing similar experiences, coping strategies or firsthand information about the cancer experience.
Women Cancer Support Group
A support group designed exclusively for women cancer survivors, the group meets regularly at the Rio Grande Cancer foundation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The group hosts a facilitator-led dialogue with education focusing on the challenges arising from female cancers.
Wellness From Within: With the Osher Center for Lifelong Learning (OLLI)
In conjunction with the University of Texas at El Paso, the foundation partners with the continuing education program at UTEP to provide coping and empowerment workshops for anyone undergoing challenges in their lives. A six-week program is titled “Wellness from Within” and enables participants to discover and explore their own best path to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing. Peppered with meditation, stretching and writing exercises, the course has six topics:
- Boundaries: Spaces for Serenity
- Creativity: Be who you are
- The New Normal: From Desire to Reality
- Stress: No Need to make a Mess
- Self-Care: Super Heroes do it!
- Writing: Putting Words to Work
There is an OLLI charge for the workshop series; however, cancer survivors can register free of charge. For reservation and more information, call us at (915) 562-7660.
